West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network

"We feel safer knowing our staff can signal for help should they need to and our team understand the importance of using the app when conducting visits."

West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network partner with StaySafe to provide protection for their lone workers

West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network works across the West Midlands to help end modern slavery and exploitation. Founded in 2010, the company works closely with the police and authorities to try and implement positive change in the surrounding areas. They set up a Safe house in 2019 to help offer protection and ongoing support to victims of slavery.

This was a brand new project for the company, so as health and safety policies were being written, they began looking for a suitable solution for employees who would conduct regular visits to the safe house throughout their day, often alone. The company wanted a solution that was simple to use, could be used at all times and didn’t require a separate device to operate.

As employees would be working with vulnerable adults in public spaces and the safe house, managers were concerned about the safety of their staff. If an incident were to happen whilst staff were visiting the safe house, they may not be able to signal for help quickly enough. Alongside this, with workers spending a lot of time by themselves travelling to different locations, managers wanted to ensure that if an accident did happen, they could find out where their staff were. Although managers were not initially looking for an app-based solution, the simplicity and ease of the StaySafe app appealed to both staff and managers and they decided this was the best option for them.

Employees can now use the StaySafe mobile app to log their arrival and safe departure from each external visit with the simple press of a button. The app is linked to a secure cloud-based monitoring Hub which accurately locates lone workers on a map and provides managers with real-time updates on their movements. If an employee fails to check-in safely during a lone working session, has an accident or raises an alert, managers will be able to locate them and get help straight away.

Managers at West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network really wanted their staff members to have a panic button to ensure they could quickly call for help if they needed to. StaySafe’s panic alert feature allows staff to notify a manager if they are in a dangerous situation. Their manager can then immediately send assistance to them. The app also provides man down alerts so that managers can detect if an employee has not moved for a prolonged period of time and check-in with them.

Staff now feel confident that they can access help if they need to when going on community visits and managers know where their employees are during their hours of work.

Amber Cagney, Development manager at West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network comments, “we’re really pleased with how the StaySafe app has fit into our company, we feel safer knowing our staff can signal for help should they need to and our team understand the importance of using the app when conducting visits. Our account manager was supportive throughout the whole on-boarding process and made sure that any questions we had were answered.”

Don Cameron, CEO at StaySafe adds, “StaySafe is great for community based organisations like West Midlands Anti-Slavery because the app has been designed to suit staff that have fast paced or unpredictable working patterns. We designed the app to be user-friendly and we offer training and support to all users to guarantee that they are confident in using the solution.”
